Clinical Sports Massage
I am able to understand the bio-mechanics of activity and mechanisms of injury that would contribute to pain and dysfunction for the client. By using that knowledge, along with an advanced understanding of functional anatomy, assessment protocols, and soft tissue healing I am able to strategize bodywork best suited for my client using preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
Though the title of “Clinical Sports Massage” may sound like every client is an athlete, the term is used to represent a focus on activity based injuries. Clinical Sports Massage is not a singular modality. The practice encompasses a combination of advanced functional anatomy, and various types of stretching and soft tissue manipulation.
Pregnancy Massage
Massages during pregnancy have often received a wide range of responses from the health community regarding their safety and purpose. Modern investigation and research has shown that prenatal massage therapy can be an instrumental ingredient in women’s prenatal care and should be given careful consideration. Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling).
Lymphedema Management Training
Selena McCreight, LMT, CLT has graduated from the Academy of Lymphatic Studies and is a Complete Lymphedema Therapist in Mitchell, South Dakota and North Ridgeville, Ohio. She has a thorough knowledge of all aspects of complete decongestive therapy, the "gold standard" of treatment for lymphedema.
This includes chronic venous insufficiency, lipedema, post-traumatic and post surgical edema, inflammatory rheumatism, fibromyalgia and more.
"It is the individual patient who we treat, not the disease. It is the patient who recovers or dies, not the illness." -James Peck, MD
Orthopathic Nureomascualar Therapy
Through applied knowledge of trigger points, neuromuscular therapy addresses poor posture, ischemia, nerve compression syndrome, and biomechanical dysfunction. In Nureomascualar Therapy, one must apply manual pressure perpendicular to the skin surface if the muscle is to be stimulated. The problem is identified trough a postural assessment. By stimulating all of the muscles associated with a particular nerve root, the nervous system learns to send the proper signal to the muscles allowing them to respond and function properly – with a full range of motion and without tension and pain. Restoring a full range of motion to a muscle ensures proper functioning thereby maximizing the training process and optimizing performance.
Techniques for Chronic Neck Injuries
By definition, a neck strain is not a serious injury. However, the pain and dysfunction that it causes can be significant. A gentle massage will stimulate blood flow in the area, which helps it heal. When you are not getting a massage, you can apply heat or ice. We will discuss the best treatment options for you and develop a plan to get you on the road to recovery.
